Chess Team Wins 2nd Place in County

The final Polk Scholastic Chess championship tournament was at the Bartow Civic Center on Saturday, March 2. Awards for January were given out beforehand. The Middle School Team came in 2nd Place with their best performance of the season. Ben Houghton and Calvin Hatch competed in their top championship sections. Calvin won two games, and Ben had one victory. Noah Cardwell came in 1st Place in the primary C section with a perfect 4-0 score. Logan Markham went 3-1 in the middle C section and won 2nd Place. Tate Rogers finished 3-1 in 3rd Place in the elementary B section. Aidan McGraw had a 2.5 score in the A section. Other competitors in the middle division were Nicolas Poblete (2.5 points), Max Boyce (2), and Matthew Klaber (1).
